Types of 3D scanning systems

The portable scanning system includes a localizer, typically an articulated measuring arm, of which various sizes are available, a ScanWorks® controller, and a sensor. The ScanWorks® sensor performs the actual laser scanning of the part or object, generating a line of points up to 458000 points per second. The ScanWorks® software synchronizes the generated points with the position of the articulated measuring arm to provide the topography of the object to the ScanWorks® software application. The ScanWorks® software integrates with 3rd party point cloud handling software to provide capabilities for reverse engineering, inspection, and other computer aided engineering activities.
