Automotive customers have ever-increasing demands for vehicles with minimal wind noise, road noise and overall vibration while driving their vehicles. This has put a lot of pressure on automotive manufacturers to apply additional sealant and make sure it is in the right spot.
In the example below, an automotive manufacturer used Perceptron's Automated Manufacturing solution to automate the process of seam sealing the vehicle body and closure panels.
Seam sealing process:
- Structure-mounted sensors measure various key tooling features
- Offset is computed from measurement results and sent to the robots
- In one station, the sealing robot is adjusted and begins dispensing sealant on vehicle body
- Process is repeated in next station to apply sealant to closure panel opening
- All offset values are stored for process monitoring and continuous improvement
