Roof Load

A vehicle manufacturer was experiencing build variation in the roof load station. They were using a traditional loading procedure where the robot would place the roof panel without regard to vehicle body position.

Once they installed Perceptron’s Automated Manufacturing solution, they were able to offset the robot’s position based on the body opening and store the offset values for further process monitoring. The vehicle manufacturer achieved improved product quality and reduced rework & scrap.

Roof load process:

  1. The opening of the roof is measured to compute the actual position of the vehicle body
  2. The roof panel is also measured to determine its size and orientation
  3. Visual Fixturing is used to achieve "best fit" or "gap equalization"
  4. Roof is loaded and secured in the opening
  5. Quality measurements are taken to ensure optimized margin and flushness
  6. Roof panel positions are stored in the database to monitor process variation

Note: Robot gripper mounted option is also available
